Highfield Food Safety Level 3
The total qualification time for the Level 3 Award is 20 - 25 hours. Approximately 9 - 14 hours are required to complete the e-learning and the remainder of learning would be completed reading the handbook or reviewing the e-learning course.
This qualification is designed for learners who wish to progress to higher or supervisory level within a food business. It is also suitable for those working off-shore as it is approved by the MCA.
The Level 3 Awards in Food Safety in Catering and Food Safety at Sea meets the requirements of the MIN 689 (M) register of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
On completion of the e-learning, candidates can sit a remotely invigilated exam to achieve one of the following accredited qualifications:

- Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Retail
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety at Sea (MCA Approved)

ASSESSMENT
LEVEL 3 AWARD
On completion of the e-learning courses, learners will sit an exam at a convenient time which is invigilated remotely. There are 45 multiple-choice questions. The passmark is 66%, with a Merit being awarded to learners achieving 80%. Learners will receive an e-certificate for one of the following qualifications:
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Catering (MCA Approved)
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Retail
- Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety at Sea (MCA Approved)
LEVEL 3 FOOD SAFETY E-LEARNING ONLY
Learners are assessed at the end of the course by multiple-choice questions. Learners will receive a Highfield e-learning completion certificate, which is downloadable upon successfully finishing the course.

The Martime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is UK executive agency of the Department for Transport that provides maritime and coastal search and rescue, regulates maritime law, and enforces standards for ship safety and seafarers. The MIN 689 (M) Amendment 2: Food and catering recognised qualifications outlines the recognised qualifications available from official bodies, which the MCA accept for issuing a ship’s cooks certificate of competency.
