Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety at Sea


This qualification is aimed at foodhandling supervisors, team leaders and line managers working on a ship.

Learners gaining this qualification will know and be able to apply the knowledge relating to a supervisor’s role at all stages of food production while at sea. They will understand the role of a supervisor in food preparation and be able to provide examples of effective management that relates to good hygiene practice.

On completion of the e-learning, candidates will sit a remotely invigilated exam to achieve the Highfield Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety at Sea.

Guided Learning hours

The total qualification time for the Level 3 Award is 20 – 25 hours. Approximately 9 – 14 hours are required to complete the e-learning and the remainder of learning would be completed reading the handbook or reviewing the e-learning course.

Form of Assessment


On completion of the e-learning courses, learners will sit an exam at a convenient time which is invigilated remotely. There are 45 multiple-choice questions. The passmark is 66%, with a Merit being awarded to learners achieving 80%. Learners will receive the Highfield Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety at Sea e-certificate.
