SQA Scottish Certificate For Personal Licence Holders Refresher Course – SCQF Level 6


The SQA Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders Refresher is designed for those who already hold a Scottish Personal Licence. All Personal Licence Holders must carry out this mandatory training within the 5-year period of issue of their Personal Licence. The qualification meets the requirements of the legislation Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.

If your personal licence was issued on or before 1 September 2009 this is the course you need to complete before renewing your licence.

Scottish Government has now released the final document regarding requirements for training and the process for reapplying for your Personal Licence.

Key Dates

  • 31 August 2018 – Personal Licence Holders can apply to renew their personal licence.
  • 31 May 2019 – absolute deadline for submitting your personal licence renewal application, but if you leave it this late you risk losing your licence.
  • 1 September 2019 – expiry date for personal licences granted up to 1 September 2009.

DG Training accepts ITA funding for many of THEIR COURSES AND TRAINING PACKAGES

What are Individual Training Accounts (ITAs)?

A Skills Development Scotland Individual Training Account (ITA) is money for you to put towards the costs of employability-focussed learning or training.

What can they be used for?

Eligible applicants could receive up to £200 towards a single training course. There are loads of course geared towards helping you get a job or progress in your career. Many of DG Training’s Courses and Training Packages are approved for ITA funding.

Who are They For?

You could be eligible for an ITA if you are:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Living in Scotland
  • Currently in, or actively seeking work
  • Not undertaking training through the Employability Fund
  • Not undertaking a Foundation, Modern or Graduate Level Apprenticeship
  • Not participating in the Community Jobs Scotland programme
  • In receipt of an income of £22,000 per year or less, or are on certain benefits

Guided Learning Hours

The course is designed to be run during a half-day session, with the course handbooks being made available to candidates two weeks before the course to enable pre-course reading.

Form of Assessment

There is a single examination for this certificate comprising of 40 multiple-choice questions.  The duration of the examination is 60 minutes.  Certificates will be awarded to those candidates who achieve 28 marks or more.  Candidates who score 27 marks or below will be given the opportunity to re-sit the examination.
