Guided Learning Hours
A minimum of 12 guided learning hours are required for this course.
Form of Assessment
The assessment for this course comprises of two parts; a practical assessment and a multiple-choice examination. On successful completion, you will receive a Paediatric First Aid certificate which will last for three years.
Syllabus
- Role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- Assessing an emergency situation safely
- Provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and breathing normally
- Provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
- Choking
- External bleeding
- Shock
- Bites, stings and minor injuries
- Fractures
- Head, neck and back injuries
- Conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
- Diabetic emergencies
- Asthma attacks
- Allergic reactions
- Meningitis
- Febrile convulsions
- Effects of extreme heat and cold
- Electric shocks
- Burns and scalds
- Poisoning
- Anaphylaxis
In addition to this course, we also offer an emergency paediatric first aid course, a paediatric first aid refresher course and a number of general first aid courses.
