Paediatric First Aid Course – 12-Hour


This qualification is aimed at individuals wishing to gain knowledge and skills in the effective care of children and young people. It is intended for learners who care for children in a professional setting such as pre-school or nursery staff, toddler group volunteers, childminders and nannies, au pairs and foster parents, or anyone who may have to deliver first aid to babies or children.

The course is highly-interactive and gives delegates the hands-on experience to successfully deliver first aid in a real-life situation.

Learners must be physically able to carry out the practical elements of the course.

Guided Learning Hours

A minimum of 12 guided learning hours are required for this course.

Form of Assessment

The assessment for this course comprises of two parts; a practical assessment and a multiple-choice examination. On successful completion, you will receive a Paediatric First Aid certificate which will last for three years.

  • Assessing an emergency situation safely
  • Provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Provide first aid for a casualty who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Choking
  • External bleeding
  • Shock
  • Bites, stings and minor injuries
  • Fractures
  • Head, neck and back injuries
  • Conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • Asthma attacks
  • Allergic reactions
  • Meningitis
  • Febrile convulsions
  • Effects of extreme heat and cold
  • Electric shocks
  • Burns and scalds
  • Poisoning
  • Anaphylaxis
